  The Vortex Theatre's 10 Minute Political Playfest

On the brink of an historical presidential contest with gender and race-busting candidates;

Looking to put some donkeys in the seats—and maybe some elephants too this election season;

America, The Vortex:
Each seeking the right candidates. CALLING ALL NEW MEXICO WRITERS!

     In honor of the coming “mean season,” The Vortex is soliciting 10-minute plays, eight to be selected for full stage production in the last weeks before the November 2008 election by our blind panel of readers, and one to be selected by the audience as the best of fest that will award the playwright $500 CASH MONEY.


  Criteria

     The contest is open only to submissions from residents/addresses within the State of New Mexico. Subjects and themes should be election year-based: National or State of New Mexico politics.

     Scripts should be original, unpublished, not previously produced (previously staged reading of the play permitted). All legal clearances in the script are the sole responsibility of the playwright.  Scripts will be preferred if they have small casts (limit: five actors) and minimal set, costume, lighting, and sound requirements.

  Submission

     Two copies of each script should be submitted in a flat (unfolded) envelope to:

     Scripts should not be more than ten pages in standard script format and stapled. No return name or address should be on the submission envelope or on the script. Submit a separate letter with script title(s) and contact information. These will be kept separate from the reading/judging process until the finalists are selected. Scripts will be returned only upon written request and with an enclosed SASE. The Vortex is not responsible for lost or damaged scripts.  Deadline: July 3, 2008. 

     Submission fee is $25 per script submitted. No limit on submissions, but only one play per author can be chosen. Checks should be made out to the Vortex Theatre.

     Submissions will be judged blindly; Vortex board and staff members are not eligible.
